30 Days/30 Photos [Day 1]

Is it too late to say Happy New Year? Since this is my first post of 2012, Happy New Year! (:

My friend Kim, of Coati Photography, asked me (about 2 hours ago!) if I was participating in her 30 Days/30 Photos project. Since I had granola in the oven I thought, why not! So, my friends, here is Day 1. [Recipe is below]

Ingredients
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees

Put your grains and almonds in a large mixing bowl

In separate bowl, mix all other ingredients with a whisk.

Pour wet ingredients into bowl with oats and almonds. Keep stirring until coated evenly.

Spread over parchment lined cookie sheet.

Bake for 45-60 minutes, stirring and turning over every 10-12 minutes so it doesn't burn. As it cools it will harden.

I'm procrastinating real bad this Holiday season. We do have some decorations up in the apartment, but not that many. We don't even have a tree for cryin' out loud. I'm dying to get one of those little Charlie Brown Trees from Kroger. They're so stinkin' cute! But, our stockings are up, so Santa is still sure to come, right?
And I have about many 30% of my shopping done. Sigh, I need to get on it.

Happy December! I must apologize for the unintentional blogging break I took. But now I'm back and ready to get back to the grind! (:

Christmas is most definitely my favorite holiday and I can't wait to complete my shopping! I only have 3 gifts so far, and I need to step it up. I'll be starting and completing a project this weekend that will make for a GREAT Christmas present. So keep a look out for it.

Fall has officially been around for a few weeks now, but I feel like I FINALLY got to really experience it this past weekend. We went to Helen to walk around, experience the town and see all the beautiful colors up in the mountains. I was truly amazing at all the variations of orange, red, yellow and green. So, so beautiful.

Marco Island

This past weekend was our beachy family reunion at Marco Island. Many, many, many laughs were had, games were played and birthdays were celebrated.

The night I flew in, my mom, her two sisters and their mom went to go visit my great aunt Susan. (I was pretty bummed I didn't get to go). She turns 90 in March so they had cake, wine and a home-cooked meal. They said she was as sharp as a whip, hysterical and so so happy they were there to visit. (Side Note: my aunt Amy [blonde] bought Hello Kitty birthday hats just to be fun. We barely took them off all weekend. Multiple people made comments, took our picture, some sang to us, and we all got some free drinks!)

The sunsets were breathtakingly beautiful, food was yummy and the family time swelled my heart. We may be overwhelmingly dysfunctional and dramatic, but I still love my family.

Labor Day Weekend

My Labor Day Weekend was filled with giggles, hugs and a little man yelling "JEEFFEERRR". My heart could not have been happier. It was such a blast getting to spend time with one of my bff's and her family. And I probably touched her growing belly a few too many times. I was so intrigued of that little baby girl growing inside of her! We also painted the little squirt's nursery and had fun decorating.

It's the last day of August, so I thought I'd get one more birthday cake in. The boy's Aunt and her family threw a little birthday get-together for all the August babies in the family (I was so ecstatic that they included me! :) We had yummy dinner and then Hannah baked a from scratch red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. And then she ate it all.

For almost 20 years, us girls have taken the same trip every summer. My mom, her bestie (of 40 years!), the bestie's 2 girls and myself. And every year we have a blast doing the same thing. Laying on the beach reading our books, eating while constantly talking about the next meal and watching silly medical shows until we can't keep our eyes open. Historic Wrigley Field is probably on my Top 10 list of favorite places. My heart was extremely happy to be there over July 4th weekend. Last time I was at Wrigley I was in my early teens. So now that I'm older (remember, birthday is right around the corner!) I have a different appreciation for the field, the ambiance and Wrigleyville. And I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty excited about my brat and beer at the game.

Adventure: The Big Easy

This weekend, the boy was craving some Cajun food. So thanks to Google, we found "the best hidden gem" in Atlanta. We were a little skeptical walking in due to lack of customers. However the $4.50 drink specials perked me right up. I indulged in a Sex In The Quarter (similar to sex on the beach, but better), a bourbon salmon blt and some beignets. All in all, successful adventure.

How have not jumped on the Smitten Kitchen bandwagon yet? Oh my goodness! I'm in love. With the photos, the recipes, the food I never thought I'd eat. And since my birthday is less than 3 weeks away, I think I will bake myself a little cake. Deb says her family has 3 cakes they all bake: Heavenly chocolate cake roll, a sour cream cinnamon chocolate chip coffee cake and her mother's apple cake. What do we think? Which one should I make?

Several people in my family have been bugging me for my "birthday list". For the first time in years, there's nothing that I'm really wanting or just dying to have. There are a few books on my list, but I can just hear my grandmother now, "You want a book? No. That's boring, I'm not getting you that." Every year.

So now I am scrounging the internet, looking for fun quirky things that I would love, really just trying to appease people. (Cause I have no ideas!)

I think I would really love a backyard dinner party with all my pals. A beautiful night full of laughter, cake and lights strung in the air. Too bad I don't have a backyard!

Unexpectedly, I spent all day on Saturday with my sweet momma. She had a somewhat crappy cell phone that frustrated her every other day, (Needless to say, it was my old phone. Whoops!) so we hopped on over to the AT&T store. She is now updated with the rest of world. Hello iPhone! Once we got back, I spent most of the evening setting up the phone while she cooked dinner, cleaned up after dinner, cleaned my kitchen and vacuumed. Yay for moms! (:

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream

I love ice cream. A lot. (That might even be an understatement) And for years, I've seen jeni's spendid ice cream all over the web. Every time I read about one of her seasonal flavors or the black coffee flavor, my mouth just fills with saliva. I'm dying down here in GA! (It doesn't hurt that it's been an average of 95 degrees the past few weeks.) When I heard Jeni opened a location in Nashville, I'm now itching for an excuse to trek up there and get myself some of her splendid ice cream. Anyone want to join me?

Plus, it doesn't hurt that her branding is so colorful and quirky.

Road trips are always better when you have something to do. So to entertain my mom and I, I purchased Bossypants by Tina Fey on audiobook.

Very possibly one of the best purchases I've ever made. At least for a road trip. I think I would actually recommend this over the book because Tina Fey narrates and you get to hear the book how she meant it.

My mom and I almost had to pull over when we were in Chattanooga because we were laughing so hard. (:

My kind of town, Chicago is... [Part 2]

The 2nd half of Day 2 included the best part, THE CUBS GAME!! I am a big baseball fan. I'm not into all the stats and crazy info like that, but I love going to the games. The cheering, the ambiance, everyone coming together to enjoy America's favorite pastime. It's a beautiful thing. (Fun fact about me: I attended my first baseball game and mere age of 2 weeks old.)

My mom grew up in Chicago, so I have adopted her love for Wrigley Field and the Cubbies. Seriously, one of the best fields ever. I think because of all the history. (Can you tell I'm in love?)

Top down, cruising through Wrigleyville. What a great day.

On our round trip we passed a wind farm. A wind farm?! Coolest thing ever. These wind turbines ran for 33 miles, and as far back as the eye could see. My mom and I were super impressed.

For July 4th weekend, my mom and I road tripped it up to Chicago! One of my favorite cities. [If you follow me on twitter, you would have seen some of my updates, hilariously good times...] Here's the first 2 1/2 days of the glorious trip.

Painting Inspiration

Man, oh man am I happy I found out about Michelle Armas. Once Wed posted a beautiful image of one of Armas' paintings and my jaw dropped. I am now in love. I feel I'm in a painting rut, unfortunately, and feeling a little lost as to what to do about it. I don't quite think I've found my 'niche' yet. So, until then, I'll keep looking for inspiration while ooing and ahing.

Memorial Day Weekend

My memorial day weekend was fun-filled and out of the ordinary! On Friday night I met up with Laura (who is my new roomie btw!), we had margaritas, I met her new boy toy and there was constant laughter! Loved.

On Saturday morning the boy and I spontaniously decided to go to the Zoo! I've lived in atl since I was 8 and had never been to the Atlanta Zoo. I was like a little kid hyped up on 10 bags of cotton candy!

Look at that cotton candy butt on that monkey! Haha!

That sweet panda was my favorite. The lion might have been, but lazy thing wouldn't get out of the shade.

Sunday, Laura officially moved in. Yay! And Sunday night was another double date night at The Counter. I loved the sweet potato fries!

Of course we had to follow that with some yummy fro-yo! Ours was like an ice cream candy bar! (The snickers topping was phenomenal.)

Had to end the weekend with some pool time! Of course, I got burned.

Weekend recap

I'm not a huge fan of last minute change of plans. That happened a lot this weekend; God is definitely testing my patience. (:

On Friday night, I gave the boy a for-no-reason present (those are my favorite [please excuse his hat hair, haha]).

Then we ate some pot roast, I attempted to make Loveless Cafe biscuits (major fail) and then went to see Bridesmaids! This is what we thought of the movie.

On Saturday, we had big plans for a great day date, but then he had to work. I was bummed, but then I got to sit by the pool. That didn't last for very long, for 2 reasons. 1. It was grossly hot out, and I don't like the heat (however, I'm Nicole Kidman-white and need some major color on my skin) 2. I smelled. The heat, plus my nasty b.o. grossed me out. (maybe this is tmi? I'm sure you don't want to know that I smell after a day and half of now showering. but, deal with it.)

I also made a decently yummy baked oatmeal dish. I think it would have been better if my raspberries wouldn't have gone bad so quickly. It needed more fruit. But it looks pretty. (:

Saturday afternoon I had the pleasure of spending with one of my best friend's mother. We sat on the porch for about 3 hours chatting and then I stayed for dinner. I love that I can do that when my buddy isn't even there. (: I had major difficulty staying awake to watch my man on saturday night live, but I made it. This was my favorite skit on the finale. His opening monologue was pretty funny too.

Girly vs. Tomboy

I grew up in a sports-afilliated household. My dad was a sportscaster for a local TV station and my mom was a professional golfer. I attended my first baseball game at the tender age of 2 weeks. (Yes, I was 2 weeks old!) I played baseball/softball for many years. Gave golf a shot, wanted to try football but I wasn't allowed. (What is that about?!)

Saying all of that, I find it hard to be more on the girly side of things. I do my best sometimes (especially on date nights!) to do the dress-fingernails painted-hair done-makeup on-bit. (Never do I do the high heel bit.) Sometimes, I fail. I just can't help but be drawn to the tomboy look. Alas, another look I just can't help but loving. (Minus the shoes and notebook.)

The boy and I watched "No Strings Attached" last night. Hilarious. The movie has awesome one liners.

My favorite one-liner: all the girls are laying around, moaning because of their period. One of the roommates says, "Ugh, it's like a crime scene in my pants." HAHA!!! Funny right? No? Go watch the movie.

Happy Easter!

This Easter weekend has been a good one! I was a little sick at the beginning, but was able to overcome it and spend some time with my mom. We went to dinner at this AWESOME restaurant for a friend's birthday on Saturday night, watched a movie and stayed up late talking. This morning, my mom wanted to try a new church so we drove out to Watkinsville and checked out. The people and the worship was awesome! We loved. (:

So thankful for Jesus and the ultimate sacrifice he paid for me. He is RISEN! (:

My mom had to have surgery yesterday. She had to have a lump removed from her breast and it is currently being tested for cancer. I know she's nervous and it's killing me not to just be with her today. Thankfully I was with her yesterday and I'm going back on Saturday to be with her (and she's requested me to paint her nails. Hehe). Yesterday, my heart swelled with love even more than I thought possible. My mom is an incredible lady, funny, sweet and always wanting to make sure others around her are comfortable and content.

I was amazed with all the phone calls and texts we got yesterday from our friends and family, thank you all for making both of us feel loved in a scary time like this.

On Saturday, I had a few hours to kill. What did I do? LAID BY THE POOL, BABY! I didn't get much sun but I enjoyed diving into my book by the pool.

Since it seems like spring has sprung, I'm ready for my hair to match the weather!
